Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award Winner
Sir Robin Saxby, Founding CEO, ARM
We are pleased to announce that Sir Robin Saxby, founding CEO of ARM is the 2012 Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award winner. This award recognizes individuals, such as its namesake, Dr. Morris Chang, for their exceptional contributions to drive the development, innovation, growth and long-term opportunities for the semiconductor industry.
Sir Robin Saxby is a technology entrepreneur, who today angel invests in, and mentors, various start-up companies, both directly and through several VC funds including Ideaworks, Sontia and Plessey.
He was the founding CEO and Chairman of ARM Holdings plc, the world's leading Semiconductor Intellectual Property Company, which he led from start-up at the end of 1990 to flotation on NASDAQ and the LSE in 1998. After splitting the roles of CEO and Chairman in 2001 he chaired the board until 2006 and retired from ARM at the end of September 2007.
He served as President of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), from 2006 to 2007, where he is still an active Fellow and Past President. Sir Robin served as Managing Director of ES2 Ltd, a silicon ASIC Company between 1986 and 1990. He was CEO of Henderson Security Systems Limited from 1984 to 1986.
His earlier career was at Motorola Semiconductors in a variety of sales, marketing and engineering management roles from 1973 to 1984 and before that he was in design and development with Rank Bush Murphy and Pye TMC.
Sir Robin was knighted in 2002 for services to the Information Technology Industry. He holds honorary doctorates from the Universities of Liverpool, Loughborough, Essex, York and Anglia Ruskin. He received his B Eng Electronics in 1968 at the University of Liverpool, where he has been a visiting professor since 1999.
He is a Faraday medalist of the IET and has served as Chairman of the Open Microprocessor Initiative Advisory Group, a European Union panel advising on collaborative R&D activity in Europe. He is a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering and Honorary Fellow of the IET.
He served as a Non-Executive Director of Glotel plc and Sirius Communications.

Private Company to Watch Award (Previously Start-Up to Watch Award)
GSA's Private Awards Committee, comprised of members of the Emerging Company CEO Council, venture capitalists and select serial entrepreneurs in the industry, selects up to two winners of the Private Company To Watch award by identifying the semiconductor company (or companies) that demonstrates the potential to positively change its market or the semiconductor industry, in general, through the innovative use of semiconductor technology or a new application for semiconductor technology.

Most Respected Private Semiconductor Company Award
The industry's Most Respected Private Semiconductor Company award is designed to identify the private company garnering the most respect from the industry in terms of its products, vision and future opportunity. GSA's Private Awards Committee reviews all private semiconductor companies, conducts analysis of each company’s performance and likelihood of long-term success, and provides a list of respectable private companies to be voted on by GSA membership. On-line voting took place to allow GSA members, including semiconductor companies and partners, to cast a ballot for the private semiconductor company they most respect.

Best Financially Managed Semiconductor Company Awards
The Best Financially Managed Semiconductor Company Awards are derived based on a broad evaluation of the financial health and performance of public fabless and IDM semiconductor companies. Numerous financial metrics as well as their respective rates of change or year-over-year improvement are analyzed. These financial metrics transverse various categories including but not limited to growth rates, margins, cash flow, profitability ratios, efficiency ratios and return on capital. All companies are ranked on each metric as well as its rate of change, and then the overall performance is compared to the peer universe to determine the winner. Three nominees (including one winner) are selected for two revenue categories: < $500 Million in Annual Sales and > $500 Million in Annual Sales.

Revenue, profitability and market capitalization, among other financial and product successes, are considered to be listed on the ballot. On-line voting took place to allow GSA membership, including semiconductor companies and partners, to cast a ballot for the public semiconductor company they most respect.
Three nominees (including one winner) are selected for three revenue categories: > $1 Billion in Annual Sales, $251 Million to $1 Billion in Annual Sales, $100 Million to $250 Million in Annual Sales. After online voting, the final nominees include:

GSA’s APAC and EMEA Leadership Councils will determine the nominees and the winners of their respective regions.
