As discussed at the MS/RF Subcommittee meeting in December, MOS-AK, an independent compact modeling forum, will merge their efforts into GSA's newly re-established Modeling Subcommittee. Since the GSA Modeling Subcommittee was first formed in 1995, the industry's landscape has drastically changed; therefore, a new mission statement and initiatives are needed. On January 27th at 10:00am (PST), GSA and MOS-AK leadership will hold a teleconference to gather feedback on what pressing issues the modeling industry currently faces and what the industry would like to see the Modeling Subcommittee achieve. Please
contact Chelsea Boone for dial-in information.
Participate in GSA’s newest survey,"Trends in Partnering with Design Service Providers", which will help design service firms better understand their customers' priorities and challenges, creating a stronger, effective partnership with semiconductor companies.
Below are a few statistics that can be found in the Q4 2008 Wafer Fabrication & Back-End Pricing Reports:
- For 200mm CMOS production wafers, average wafer pricing decreased 4.5% QoQ.
- For 200mm CMOS wafers, the average mask set cost decreased 10.5% QoQ.
- 97% of participants indicated they are receiving the capacity they need.
- Test average prices (hourly rate) increased 19.4% and assembly average prices (price per lead) decreased 9.1% QoQ.
- At 200mm, fabless companies and IDMs paid $108, on average, for bump services.
These reports are now available for purchase from the GSA Store.
The Q3 report shows that while the semiconductor industry is contracting, there is still growth among well-positioned companies. Statistics that support this finding include:
- Of the 101 public semiconductor companies that have been recently observed by an industry analyst, over half received a positive forecasted growth for 2008 over 2007.
- 50% of semiconductor companies that reported cash and cash equivalents in Q3 reported an increase in cash YoY, and 23% reported a cash increase greater than 50%.
- On average, the semiconductor industry has spent 19% to 23% on R&D over the past seven quarters, while the industry is spending between 19% and 21% on SG&A.
This report may be purchased via the GSA Store.
