Communication Convergence: Emerging Technologies in Mobile Computing and the Connected Home

Consumers are increasing their demands on internet and device connectivity in the home. As a result, companies are creating new technologies that enable the home to become a connected portal that enables consumers to easily access mainstream content online from their living rooms. In addition to the connected home, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) have begun to play a major role in facilitating the constant connection trend that society is dependent upon. How can semiconductor companies successfully anticipate innovative technology needs to stay abreast of the constant evolution of technology and the connectivity trend?

Panel Discussion
Negotiating the Blurred Lines Between Consumer Electronics, Home Networking and Mobile Technology

Semiconductors have consistently surpassed expectations when creating technologies to stay abreast of consumer trends. In the next several years, research has shown that companies must innovate in creating technologies that allow devices to stream content through MIDs, digital TVs, set-top boxes, PCs, PDAs, netbooks, mobile handsets and digital cameras. These categories will require sophisticated computing power, high-end microcontrollers, video/audio/media processing, Internet connectivity and touch screen functionality. This panel will focus on the trends taking place within the Consumer Electronics segment with a focus on MIDs, Home Networking and Networked-Attached Storage and address the needs in this space, such as power management, ultra portability, processing capacity, networking capabilities and multimedia capability.
