ASTRI was founded by the Government of Hong Kong SAR with a mission of enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness in technology-based industries through applied research.

Since inception, ASTRI has been delivering world-class technologies and customer-focused R&D which cater to the needs of the industry. Our R&D efforts traverse five main technological areas:

Communications Technologies
- key directions of mid-to-long-term advanced core technology developments: Practical MIMO, Reconfigurable OFDM Core, RF and Antenna

Enterprise & Consumer Electronics
- each of the technology areas, including Digital Home Technology, Mobile Multimedia Communications Technology, and Multimedia Technology IP, offers a suite of licensable products and platforms

IC Design
- two major areas: Portable Analog and Mixed Signal Design and Applied SoC Design, conducting various projects, such as high speed data communication ICs, low power data converters and solid-state storage controller

Material & Packaging Technologies
- technology initiatives include Display Systems, LED Lighting, Advanced Packaging Technologies, Photonic Components and Device Fabrications

Bio-Medical Electronics
- undertakes medical-related projects, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Magnetic Resonance Electrography and Thermal Therapy Apparatus & Device for surgical applications.

In April 2006, ASTRI was designated the HK Research and Development Centre for Information and Communications Technologies by the Innovative and Technology Commission of Hong Kong with special goals to perform leading-edge R&D for technology transfer to industry, develop much needed technical human resources and act as a focal point bringing together industry and university R&D assets.

Through close collaboration with the HKSAR Government, industry and universities on the latest development of technologies and market trends, ASTRI has succeeded in building a portfolio of innovative projects producing a volume of IPs.
