GSA Luncheon Addresses the Trends in Consumer Electronics and the Communication Convergence
DirecTV, GlobalFoundries, AMD, Marvell and Open-Silicon
Weigh In on Challenges and Opportunities
San Jose, Calif. (April 28, 2010) – The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) announces its Silicon Series Luncheon focused on The Future of Consumer Electronics and the Communications Convergence addressing emerging applications in consumer electronics (CE). The luncheon takes place at the Barton Creek Resort on May 6 in Austin, Texas.
According to Gartner, chip demand for smart phones accounted for 28.6% of demand for total mobile handsets in 2009. May 6 speakers from DirecTV, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, AMD, Marvell and Open-Silicon will discuss the market opportunities and challenges that arise from entering communications markets such as Mobile Internet Devices (MID), home networking and Network-Attached Storage. The main topic under discussion will be ways semiconductor companies and their value-chain partners can succeed and profit in these areas.
GSA is pleased to announce keynote speaker, Henry Derovanessian, vice president of Set-Top Box Engineering for DirecTV, addressing Emerging Technologies in Mobile Computing and the Connected Home at 11:00 a.m. Derovanessian’s presentation will explore various ways for semiconductor companies to successfully anticipate industry needs to stay abreast of the constant evolution of innovative technology and the connectivity trend.
An insightful panel titled, Negotiating the Blurred Lines Between Consumer Electronics, Home Networking and Mobile Technology, will spotlight the trends taking place in consumer electronics and will highlight needs in this segment, including power management, ultra portability, processing capacity, networking capabilities and multimedia capability.
The panel is moderated by Tom Sonderman, vice president of Manufacturing Systems and Technology for GLOBALFOUNDRIES and includes:
