San Jose, California (September 16, 2019) GSA – The GSA has appointed four new leaders to its Board of Directors, as it continues to offer a strategic platform for thought-leadership across a broad array of semiconductor technologies, markets and geographies. These additions will further strengthen the leadership that is already a who’s who of the semiconductor industry.
Dr. Lisa Su, president and CEO, AMD and the chair of GSA praised these appointments, “Adding this breath of leadership to the GSA Board strengthens our work together. The semiconductor industry is a very complex ecosystem and requires smart, sustained collaboration. Deep engagement by a diverse board is critical to our value as an organization..”
Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to strong global footprint that reflects the diversity of the industry, the GSA appointed two of China’s most important semiconductor business leaders Steve Chu, CEO, UniSOC and Yiming Zhu, CEO and Chairman, ChangXin Memory Technologies, Inc., and Chairman, of Gigadevice Semiconductor Corporation (public listed company).
Steve is a pioneer in the mobile and communications markets and has numerous inventions and patents in this area. He also brings to the board a very keen understanding of the semiconductor markets particularly in the development trend of IC industry. Yiming is the CEO and Chairman of CXMT, and Chairman of Gigadevice with a vision to establish China as a player in the memory industry.
Yiming chose to accept the board appointment stating, “Stepping into a GSA board role enables CXMT to participate in strengthening the collaboration among the global semiconductor companies. We fully support GSA international initiatives, and CXMT is pleased to provide our insight as an emerging leader in the Chinese memory industry.”
Steve added “By adding my voice to the board, I hope to share the Chinese viewpoint with my peers to aid in defining approaches to GSA’s global initiatives and strategies. In addition, as a member we hope to develop partnerships which boost innovation and development in the changing semiconductor industry.”
The GSA currently has 30 member companies headquartered in China and the group remains committed to encouraging collaboration across borders and hopes to grow its membership in this geography.
The new leadership also includes Naga Chandrasekaran, Senior Vice President, Process Research and Development, Micron Technology, Inc., representing the world’s leading memory company and providing a technical prowess and broad understanding of the technology roadmap. Micron has been a longtime supporter of the goals and objectives of GSA. “As a leader in memory and storage solutions, it is a privilege to lend my thoughts, leadership and expertise to the GSA platform. They are a true partner to those in the industry aiding in the development of partnerships and delivering on opportunities to engage with peers.”
ON Semiconductor who is driving energy efficient innovations, empowering customers to reduce global energy use and is a leading supplier of semiconductor-based solutions will be represented by Bill Schromm, Executive Vice President/COO. Bill will bring his expertise on the global supply chain and the high degree of interdependability of the industry. Bill has also been an advocate of women’s leadership which is a major focus of the GSA.
